You can now avoid this with OpenSea's "lazy mining" whereby you only pay for the mining/ gas fee once an order has been placed. This de-risks the listing and most importantly protects the planet (well, until you do sell - if you do).
It is frightening indeed to think of all the people who rushed on places like Rarible, expecting a Beeple-like sell-out, paid for the mining and released tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, only to list their item and never sell them...0 economic value created but huge damage to the environment done.
Luckily OpenSea (others may no offer this too) lets you avoid this.
