Indeed. I attended a Tony Robbins seminar myself - an interesting experiment in how you can get a crowd of 13,000 people into raving fans literally running to grab a ticket for the next, more expensive and "life-changing" programme at the end; no actual, hard evidence of which is ever provided.

This notion of burning the boats is actually the opposite to what many hugely successful entrepreneurs do.

Not least of them, would be Mark Zuckerberg.

In an interview with Y Combinator, he explains that unlike what many may think, he and his colleagues never took a huge leap of faith and suddenly slammed the door on Harvard after having a shiny idea...

It was a very gradual process and took over a year until they finally left, each time taking on a bit more risk but never "burning the boats" from the get-go.

In fact, Zuckerberg strongly advises against doing so, and launching into building a "business" when the concept isn't firmly validated and odds of success are clear.
